The Forty & Eight, an honor society of Veterans of the U.S. Military was created in 1920. It draws its origin from World War 1. Millions of American soldiers in Europe were transported to the front in narrow French railroad boxcars called “Voitures”, which only held 40 men OR 8 horses. Dedicated to the needs of their fellow man, The Forty & Eight raises funds to support a national nursing scholarship program, various child welfare programs and aid to veterans. They continue to promote Americanism at both local and national levels.
