The motto of The Lapeer Optimist Club is “Friend of Youth.” It’s current more than 55 members are a fun-loving, compatible cross-section of the business, social and cultural life of the Lapeer-area community whose single objective is to encourage the development of youth, in the belief that giving of one’s self in service to others will advance the well being of the community.
Since 1958 the Lapeer Optimist Club has made a difference in the community. The Club’s best-known projects include the $280,000 project to build the Lapeer Optimist Community Tennis Courts at Lapeer West, The $500,000 project to build the Lapeer Optimist Community Soccer Fields at Lapeer East High School, the $200,000 pledge to the One Lapeer Foundation athletic field project, a major renovation of Lapeer Community Schools’ football field, baseball/softball diamonds and track and field facilities that will serve future generations of Lapeer student-athletes, and the recent $40,000 donation to the LINKS Program.
The Lapeer Optimist Club has also given generously to a number of organizations and groups throughout the years including Lapeer Days, Banbury Cross, Mentors for Kids, 3rd Degree Burns, Project Graduation, Project Lead the Way, robotics teams, and many more. In the last year alone, the group donated close to $50,000 to various groups in the community.
